Windows 10 end of life

Windows 10 is going to stop getting security updates on October the 14th 2025 this means that anyone still running this software on their computer after this date will be more susceptible to security threats as new viruses and attacks will not be patched by Microsoft.

What does this mean for me

Firstly check if your computer is able to run Windows 11. You can do this by simply opening up the settings and searching for updates and seeing if your computer says you are able to upgrade to Windows 11 or your computer is not able to upgrade.  if you are able to upgrade you should do so immediately

What if my computer is not able to run Windows 11

If your computer is not able to meet the hardware requirements of Windows 11 then you have a couple of options.  Firstly, Microsoft would prefer that you purchase a new computer that is capable of running the new operating system with its enhanced security features. We are able to help our customers source the right computer for them if you need help with this feel free to get in touch with us

Another option is to install a free and open source operating system  like Linux.  Linux has come a long way in the last few years and for basic computer users who just wish to search the internet and watch YouTube videos, Linux is now a perfectly viable option .Distributions such as Ubuntu and Linux Mint are easily accessible with the very shallow learning curve.

The third option is you are able to sign up to Microsoft extended support for Windows 10.  This will allow you to have an extra year of Windows 10  updates and can be paid for upfront for a cost of $30 or can be attained for free using the Microsoft rewards program.

Windows 10 has served as well for almost 10 years and it is sad to say goodbye but it’s time to move on.
